I remain excited and skeptical at the same time. Old norse bands have time and again ruined themselves with poor releases from people who have lost touch with what they originally intended. I do not see Varg as someone who would do this to himself. So I remain hopeful. Given the first 30 seconds of each song, it is hard to make judgement. He certainly parted from Filosofem and did not fall back on his old old ways. It sounds as something new, but has definite Burzum quality to the riffs. The question remains, "do those good Burzum-quality riffs go on to form well executed songs, or do they plod on boringly? I'm on edge like I have been for no other album in some time.
